The innovation fad is over

Here’s more interesting reading for the weekend, like Bruce Nussbaum elaborating in BusinessWeek that the hype around the innovation is bound to cool when most companies are declaring that innovation is a building block of their strategy. This is right, and one could bet on this kind of backlash, yet only few companies actually grasp the full complexity of innovation. The real work for companies (and innovation consultants alike) is thus just beginning, whether you call it a fad or not.

And this work is hard, i.e. educating, coaching and (re-)structuring organizations, won’t be done in one hype cycle alone. Building an innovative corporate culture and ensuring that processes and (IT-)infrastructure are in place and well suited to current and future demands is not trivial. These things take time …
