Nice account of an IBM / E20 success story

I especially like the highlighted role of accepting emergent outcomes, good stuff you just can't plan for, but have to hope for ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Hi Martin, glad that you like the fact that we are ready to accept emergent outcomes.
To me, that's part of a main character we shall anticipate from a real Emergent Social Software Platform, or so-called ESSP well-defined by +Andrew McAfee in his book, right?

You are right that we cannot really plan for such kind of emergent, but only hope for it wouldn't help either.
As community and content facilitators (or managers) of such platform, we need be open to all kind of potential growth, and make sure that the mechanisms to let structure emerge stay alive. In another words, we must take care that those 1.0 ways (or desires) of imposing structure do not come in the way, when the emergent structure is still in its early stage of live-cycle.

  2. Yes, +CheeChin Liew I agree that this is one of the main effects one can hope for in #e20 implementation efforts. Having an insightful team that knows the pitfalls and is thoughtful about them can help in avoiding a) fixing structures in brickwork too early (when it's not ready yet) and b) supporting the smallish emergent pattens that might be trampled over by legacy ways of doing stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰

Normally corporate anti-cells are the bigger danger, i.e. b) as well … the cooler it is to see a "successful big industrial structure" have a good take on #e20 … congrats!
