{"id":635,"date":"2007-02-13T10:07:23","date_gmt":"2007-02-13T09:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.martin-koser.de\/BMID\/index.php\/archive\/workplace-bad-apples\/"},"modified":"2007-02-13T10:07:23","modified_gmt":"2007-02-13T09:07:23","slug":"workplace-bad-apples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.martin-koser.de\/BMID\/2007\/02\/workplace-bad-apples\/","title":{"rendered":"Workplace &#8216;bad apples&#8217; &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/50226711\/asymmetrical_performance_how_one_bad_employee_can_spoil_lots_of_good_ones.php\">Businesspundit<\/a> I&#8217;ve learned of this research finding: <a href=\"http:\/\/uwnews.washington.edu\/ni\/article.asp?articleID=30464\">&#8220;Rotten to the core: How workplace &#8216;bad apples&#8217; spoil barrels of good employees&#8221;<\/a> by William Felps and Terence Mitchell (professor of management and organization in the Business School and UW psychology) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/\">University of Washington<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, no surprise here, Bob Sutton&#8217;s also arguing that a******s can have significant negative effects on a company (take the <a href=\"http:\/\/electricpulp.com\/guykawasaki\/arse\/\">a*****e-test for a self-investigation<\/a> if you like &#8230; I&#8217;ve done it, see here for <a href=\"http:\/\/bobsutton.typepad.com\/my_weblog\/2007\/02\/arse_staistics_.html\">the statistics of +11.000 people <\/a> &#8211; yes, tongue in cheek)<\/p>\n<p>Yet, this cautionary point is important:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The authors caution there&#8217;s a difference between &#8220;bad apples&#8221; and employees who think outside the box and challenge the status quo. Since these &#8220;positive deviants&#8221; rock the boat, they may not always be appreciated.
