{"id":1152,"date":"2008-08-27T23:35:07","date_gmt":"2008-08-27T21:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.martin-koser.de\/BMID\/?p=1152"},"modified":"2008-08-27T23:35:07","modified_gmt":"2008-08-27T21:35:07","slug":"we-magazine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.martin-koser.de\/BMID\/2008\/08\/we-magazine\/","title":{"rendered":"WE magazine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/\" target=\"_blank\">WE magazine<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/2008\/08\/24\/here-we-go-we_magazine-vol01-is-available-neu\/\">launched<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.whoiswho.de\/\">Ulrike Reinhard<\/a> and their team (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.netzpolitik.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Markus Beckedahl<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gschwend-grafik.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bea Gschwend<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.media-ocean.de\/2008\/08\/25\/1st-edition-of-we-magzine-published\/\">Steffen B&uuml;ffel too<\/a>) have put on a first issue with a set of articles by people like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/creative-commons\/\">Joi Ito<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.downes.ca\/\">Stephen Downes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/we_the-media\/\">Dan Gillmor<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/hiring-indians\/\">Sugata Mitra<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethanzuckerman.com\/blog\/\">Ethan Zuckerman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ulrike explains how she came up with the idea for WE magazine, the motives and plans for the future:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[&#8230;] it gradually dawned on me what enormous power the Internet has for shaping our understanding of \u201cwe\u201d and of just what \u201cwe\u201d are capable of moving and shaking in the age of the World Wide Web \u2013 a range of huge opportunities comes into sight only matched in scale by the challenges they bring with them!<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;] we-magazine is international. Even if the authors in this issue are mainly from Europe and America, this obviously doesn\u2019t mean that Asia and Africa will be out of our focus. As you\u2019ll see in the next issues.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re very much moving on the \u201ccutting edge\u201d with the topics we deal with and we warmly welcome the highly controversial viewpoints put forward by our authors which are first and foremost intended to stimulate discussion and debate. All this territory is so new and unexplored that we\u2019ve very little experience to fall back on. As<a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/towards-a-new-enlightenment-and-the-tasks-of-a-natural-religion_neu\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Stuart  Kauffman<\/a> puts it so well in the opening sentence of his article, \u201cWe are at a hinge of global history and need all we can muster to manage safe passage.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The magazine is also a business model experiment &#8211; it&#8217;s available as (free) online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.we-magazine.net\/volumes\/volume-01\/\" target=\"_blank\">texts<\/a> under a CC <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/3.0\/de\/\" target=\"_blank\">Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike, Germany<\/a> licence but you can (and should) also buy an actual copy (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/content\/3756562\" target=\"_blank\">pdf<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/content\/3757073\" target=\"_blank\">print<\/a>) at lulu.com.<\/p>\n<p>So I will be checking out the interviews &#8230; a most welcome addition to my pile of stuff marked &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/delicious.com\/mk.frogpond\/toread\">toread<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WE magazine has launched.
